The Society extends its congratulations on this very fitting recognition to Bev Harris and her extended family (pictured).  The award was presented to the family during the 2025 Melbourne Royal Interbreed competition.  The family has supported the carcase competition for many years and have been successful in two wins and one runner up in the Borthwick trophy in the last 4 years.  With grandson Robert keen to continue with exhibition of stud cattle from family’s Australian Shorthorn stud, they were also successful this year with the Reserve Junior Champion Shorthorns Bull – Meadow Vale Vindicator V30.

Bev said –
” We started showing cattle at Melbourne show in 1976 and continued through until now. First as Carousel Poll Shorthorns , then a change to Meadow Vale Australian Shorthorns in 2004. There would only be a handful of years we missed showing, when Robert (dec) was battling cancer, otherwise, if we weren’t showing our Shorthorns, we’d be working for other studs, showing their cattle”.

“Dairy shorthorns were in abundance in the Lancefield area”;  my great grand-father had a dairy shorthorn and the love for the breed evolved into shorthorns when I attended and purchased a female at Bruce Starritt’s Kelso sale, which founded the Carousel poll shorthorn stud;  further additions were made in the early 1990’s with purchases from J Killmister (Cocomah) and a Kongwak bred female from the Pearce on-property sale”.
